Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

We work with adults experiencing grief or loss related to the death of a loved one, end of life concerns, and life transitions.

Do you work with children?

No, we do not provide counseling or therapy directly to children. Our approach is to provide counseling to parents or guardians so they can better support their family.  We can provide a referral to a therapist who works with children.

How long do appointments last?

Sessions are typically 50-60 minutes depending on the service provided, your needs and comfort level.

How often will we meet?

We usually start with meeting once a week. After a while, we may meet less often as you begin to feel better, recognizing that there may be times that you choose to meet more often for additional support, such as around the holidays or when anticipating difficult reminders or events that are coming up.

Can we meet virtually? Do you provide online counseling?

Yes, if you prefer online sessions, we can meet online using a secure video system (similar to Zoom or Skype).

How much do you charge?

The fee for the initial 60 minute psychotherapy visit (in person or telehealth) is $175; subsequent sessions are typically 45-50 minutes at $140, or 30 minutes at $95. Cash, check, health savings account, and most credit cards are accepted. Payment is collected at the time of service.

Do you accept Insurance?

Yes, we do accept insurance and are in-network with several insurance companies. We currently are in-network with Wellmark/Blue Cross & Blue Shield, HealthPartners, Lyra, and Medicare.

If we are out-of-network with your insurance company, they may allow us to submit an out-of-network claim on your behalf. Or you may pay for services upfront and we will provide you with a receipt that you submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please note that your insurance company/policy will determine any reimbursement to which you are entitled.

Please note that any insurance claim requires that you are given a mental health diagnosis.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, we are not medical doctors and do not prescribe medication. Many people find medication helpful, while others progress well without medication. If you would like to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, please contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist.
